“Singapore, it’s nice to meet you!” shouted Hayley Williams to the packed Singapore Indoor Stadium last Sunday. The greeting has at least been five years in the making. For the thousands of teenage fans who queued up outside the venue as early as the night before, watching Paramore larger-than-life right before their very eyes was like, to paraphrase the lyrics from “Misery Business,” watching their wildest dreams come true.

“I gotta feeling. That tonight’s gonna be a good night,” crooned Martin Johnson, lead vocalist and guitarist of Boys Like Girls. The cover of the Black Eyed Peas’ hit single was definitely a great opener for their full-length debut show at the newly opened Compass Ballroom at Resorts World Sentosa on January 28.

The other day, my editor was asking me about my opinion of local bands and if I do have any recommendations for the blog. Well, my friends. I have many, of course!

Meeting Rachel Liang Wen Yin gets me slightly nervous. My Mandarin, while exceptional for conversational stuff, isn’t exactly fluent in a formal interview setting. And most importantly, Mandarin love ballads aren’t my cup of tea either. But I take on this assignment with aplomb because like Rachel, I love a good challenge myself.

Paramore will be heading down to Southeast Asia. First show? Singapore on March 7 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium! The fearless five-piece will also make their way down to the Philippines on March 9 at the SM Concert Grounds in Manila.

17 years later, Buzzcocks, with original members Pete Shelley (vocals) and Steve Diggle (guitar) and new additions Chris Remington (bass) and Danny Farrant (drums), are coming back in town to kick out the jams. It would be YOUR honor to be able catch them live and watch and learn how punk rock is really being done. To quote filmmaker Jim Jarmusch in the 2005 documentary Punk: Attitude that’s directed by Don Letts, “People get too complacent. And the fight against that complacency is punk rock.” You wouldn’t want to get complacent now, do you?

New York trio, +/- {PLUS/MINUS}, will be heading to Singapore for a one-night-only performance come this December 16!

My fellow indie music fans, my heart just about stopped when I heard this news. All these years of waiting and missed opportunities have finally came to an end. To think I was about to book a flight to Busselton, Perth to catch them at the Southbound Festival. But now I do not have to worry about the summer flies in Western Australia anymore because my prayers have answered – Yeah Yeah Yeahs are coming to Singapore!
