CJ Internet announced today that it will organize the first Mini Fighter Singapore Tournament together with Round1.sg, Singapore’s Premiere Fighting Game Community where participants of all ages will be invited to take part in a free-for-all offline tournament at Game Haven on Carpenter Street.

“Singapore, it’s nice to meet you!” shouted Hayley Williams to the packed Singapore Indoor Stadium last Sunday. The greeting has at least been five years in the making. For the thousands of teenage fans who queued up outside the venue as early as the night before, watching Paramore larger-than-life right before their very eyes was like, to paraphrase the lyrics from “Misery Business,” watching their wildest dreams come true.

“I gotta feeling. That tonight’s gonna be a good night,” crooned Martin Johnson, lead vocalist and guitarist of Boys Like Girls. The cover of the Black Eyed Peas’ hit single was definitely a great opener for their full-length debut show at the newly opened Compass Ballroom at Resorts World Sentosa on January 28.

The other day, my editor was asking me about my opinion of local bands and if I do have any recommendations for the blog. Well, my friends. I have many, of course!

I think I may have been overlooking the tees-and-jeans lovers in my audience, being more in the singapore-is-too-hot-for-jeans camp myself. But NO FEAR! I have sussed out several pretty cool online sites for you to do some online shopping at (I’ve heard online shopping is popular among people who want to slack off take a temporary break from real work. Really. This is just hearsay.).

I remember when I was a kid, my grandmother loved to watch Indian movies. She was a fan of the whole let’s-take-this-opportunity-to-dance style of the movies, and the 4-year-old me would sit with her to watch them, utterly enthralled.

(Unfortunately it didn’t hone any nascent dance skillz in me.)

Anyways, if she was still around now, I’m pretty sure this musical would thrill her to bits:

Meeting Rachel Liang Wen Yin gets me slightly nervous. My Mandarin, while exceptional for conversational stuff, isn’t exactly fluent in a formal interview setting. And most importantly, Mandarin love ballads aren’t my cup of tea either. But I take on this assignment with aplomb because like Rachel, I love a good challenge myself.

Sure, we love full-scale MMORPGs with the massive dungeons, intricate details, and long-fought campaigns — like that game with a name that starts with “W” and ends with “orld of Warcraft”. But sometimes all you want is a big brawl with 200 other players

Before today, I’ve already had the song Trouble Is A Friend stuck in my head. Apparently, listening to it umpteen more times will not unstick it. Repeat, will not. But then, it was a totally different experience watching her sing live on the CNA morning show, with just an acoustic guitar: it was mesmerizing!

Paramore will be heading down to Southeast Asia. First show? Singapore on March 7 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium! The fearless five-piece will also make their way down to the Philippines on March 9 at the SM Concert Grounds in Manila.
