The Crowd That Wouldn’t QuitPosted September 23rd, 2013 At 6:16 pm By Alan Wong
MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia 2013 was epic! From Flizzow to fireworks, the entire show was electric. There were lights, lasers, stage diving stars, and even an enormous inflatable rubber ducky that was passed around the crowd. Every act brought their A-game and killed it on stage. But my favorite part of World Stage was the audience. The fans were simply out of control awesome!
The very first fan to show up at Sunway got there Friday night. Two days before the show! I found her waiting outside the entrance at 2 am in the morning and she was so happy and excited. Now that’s impressive! Over the next two days people kept showing up even though some of them would have to wait in line for over 10 hours. Before the doors opened, Hanli and I got a chance to meet the people waiting in line to give away T-shirts and express passes. This was one of the most fun parts of the weekend. We got to interview fans of all of the artists. We found girls dancing EXO dance moves, guys rapping Flizzow lyrics, people screaming for Far East Movement, and just about everyone willing to sing “Blurred Lines” for Robin Thicke. They had been waiting forever, it started to rain, and still, spirits were high.
But as loud and crazy as people were waiting in line, nothing could have prepared me for the moment we stepped out on stage to open the show. The rain was coming down. Bright lights lit up the whole place as fog and smoke swept over the stage. The crowd was screaming so loud I couldn’t even hear at all. The audience was literally deafening. It was the most surreal moment I had ever experienced. Every thing we said or question we asked was answered by an incredible roar from 15,000 voices. And that was just the beginning.
Flizzow soon took the stage and Malaysian pride echoed through the air as Joe and his crew started off the concert with an explosion of energy. It was the perfect setup for EXO to take the stage, which drove the K-Pop fans absolutely insane. I have never seen girls lose their minds the way these girls did for EXO. But as exciting as that was, Far East Movement took everything to whole new level. By this point, it had been raining for hours and everyone was drenched, but that didn’t stop the crowd from switching into absolute party mode as Far East Movement shook Sunway with each party anthem.
You’d think by now, that people would have been exhausted right? But even waiting in line all day (some for days) and standing in the rain for hours couldn’t dampen the spirits of this audience. Because as soon as Robin Thicke got underway, the fans were there screaming, ready to close out the night with a bang. And I mean that literally, as fireworks erupted in the air. I don’t think anything could have stopped that crowd from having an amazing night. And because of that, I had one of the best nights of my life.
MTV World Stage Live in Malyasia 2013 = Legend – wait for it – DARY!
