According to a world exclusive by MOJO magazine, The Beatles: Remastered catalog, which was released on 090909 together with The Beatles: Rock Band, will be reissued on vinyl format!

Says Jeff Jones, Chief Executive of Apple Corps, to MOJO, “We’re working on them now. I don’t have a release date. To put a release date next to them forces us into a situation where we’re releasing something that might not be ready. They are incredibly complicated in terms of getting the masters right and getting the packages right. How do you assemble them? How do you put them in a box? How much do they cost? We want to make sure we’re doing it right and that people get real value from it.”

No matter the cost or how long the wait, now this is one Beatles reissue that all fans must have. I only own one Beatles album on vinyl (The Beatles: Live At The BBC) and am glad that I held out and haven’t went out and bought the CD reissues and The Beatles: Rock Band. With the advent of MP3s, CDs just don’t cut it anymore and I try to own all of my favorite albums (that include but not limited to the discography of The White Stripes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Kills, The Coathangers) on vinyl because of a) that “pop-and-crack” warm, vintage sound, b) bigger artwork, c) I like something to hold on to, other than my iPod, when I listen to my music. The gospel of vinyl should be widely spread because of the romanticism – it excites me greatly when I buy a new record, tear open the shrink-wrap, take out the record, put the needle on and pour heartily over the artwork while the music plays (candle burning optional). To quote Jack White, “Because if a journalist or a critic doesn’t own a record player, I don’t really trust them. They’re obviously not looking back, they don’t know enough about music history.” And his slogan for Third Man Records? “Your Turntable’s Not Dead.” The rock ‘n’ roll renaissance man is right on all accounts!

And if you are looking to get into the world of vinyl, turntables are not expensive and modern ones are easily available at most good audio shops. Most vinyl releases also come with digital download coupons nowadays so you can still have a digital copy to transfer to your iPods. Even if they don’t come with, there are analog-to-digital turntables that allow your to transfer your music to MP3s. Don’t you just love technology?

PS: Just for your amusement, here are two articles from Guardian UK that talk about some of the rarest Beatles records ever.
