…and this is the latest tongue twister popular among hippie tree-hugging kids.

No, not really. Cherry Girl IS a treehugger, but she ain’t no hippie (as far as I can tell). She’s just entirely devoted to her cause of well, the environment. And being eco-friendly. She’s Emily Strange (minus angst, death & morbidity) meets an anarchic Greenpeace, and in her dreamy, almost ethereal way, somehow manages to lobby for her cause without being hackneyed, condescending or just plain boring.

Other than the fact of her being part of MTV’s pro-social initiative (meaning, they love her ‘cos of her unique take on being earth-loving, so they signed her up to be the poster child of positive living for MTV Switch) – my interest was piqued by the Cherry Girl brand of philosophy:

She seeks pleasure in life. Do more. Never needlessly deprive yourself. Life should be enjoyable in all ways.

Hell, yeah.

She’s also against fast fashion (or disposable fashion) ‘cos of all the endless cycles of buy-and-throw-away involved. It’s also funny how Cherry Girl popped into my radar just as I’m working on a couple of photoshoots for Tattler around the whole eco-friendly, anti-disposable fashion thing. (It’s my September theme!) Uncanny. The universe works in mysterious ways.

And as a great incentive for others to be eco-conscious, she’s giving away a friggin’ Gibson guitar (1 of 25 made of this model) autographed by John Legend, Metallica, Macy Gray, Kasabian, Paolo Nutini, Spinal Tap, Russell Brand and more to those who can convince her of their earth-friendly efforts. I know of at least 5 people who would die to get their hands on this.
