• Top 5 Fav Moments of MTV World Stage Live in MalaysiaPosted August 19th, 2009 At 11:02 am By MTV ASIA

So you may have heard of this little thing called MTV World Stage Live. You may also know, vaguely, that it was held somewhere in Malaysia. A place called KL. With a few little bands called The All-American Rejects, Boys Like Girls, Kasabian…and with just a teeny, tiny audience of 15,000 people. Yeah? That sound familiar to you? Good. ‘Cos in my current sleep deprived state from this awesome experience, I’m gonna cut to the chase and tell you about my top 5 favouritest moments (in no particular order) from this crazy, crazy day.

    1. Meeting the funny (funny haha, not strange) Boys Like Girls

My first LOL-moment in KL. These guys are so laid back, so effusive, so friendly that you almost feel you’ve been buddies for a long time, hanging out way back home in Boston like old pals. Though the whole thing was a quick hi-bye-how-you-doin’ affair, lead singer Martin cracked us all up shouting ANTM-like instructions during the photo op, commanding us to unleash the animal within us: “GRR! C’mon! TIGER! TIGER! Another one!”. Which resulted in a photo where we looked damn happy (laughing uncontrollably) and me, slightly unhinged:

…okay, I chickened out – the photo I’m showing y’all is the one where we all look really normal, and I daresay, perfectly pleasant:

Rochelle and John Keefe (on right) are gazing into the distance, happily imagining their future together already. Lucky girl.

    2. Interviewing you guys

Wi Nie and I had to go out, microphones in hand, with Rizal toting his video camera to tackle one challenge: to record your excitement. And we rookies really had to wing it and learn as we go along. Thanks for making this so much easier people! Your bubbliness and excitement made it a cinch – you all are naturals in front of the camera man. (Please look out for the videos at the end of the this month!)

Also, I have to note that it’s really interesting how people react to two random girls speaking in front of a camera.

-people craning their necks to look at us-; and I overheard: “Eh, are they famous?”

No sirree, we are not (yet, hehe). Sorry to disappoint you.

PS. To the dad who wanted to take pictures OF us not looking into the camera for his daughter’s ‘fashion project’: Are you for real?!

    3. The endless photo opportunities with really cool people!

I know, they are just photos. But they are proof of a time when we were breathing in the same AIR, damn it. That has to mean something right?! (On second thought, in these times of H1N1…maybe it’s better if it didn’t?)

    Us with Raygun!

Me: "Your scarf is soo shiny!" Him: "Thanks I know I'm really fabulous." (I made this up.)BUT YOU TOTALLY ARE!

Us with impossibly charming Raygun (and exercising our thigh muscles at the same time)

Wi Nie and I with Pixie Lott’s back-up singer:

I have a total girl crush on her. Her skin is LUMINOUS.

And, er, Kenny Sia! Wi Nie’s favourite blogger:

    4. THE CONCERT ITSELF, DUH.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to shout. But yes, that’s an absolute highlight. We’ve blogged all about it already. If you, by any chance, haven’t read it yet (how could you?!!) go go go now! Clickety click on the link please: Live Blog

    5. Meeting all the people at MTV Asia, and the other bloggers

You all are seriously one of the nicest bunch of people I’ve ever worked with (or met, for that matter). You’ve all made it a gazillion times more fun: Angela, Serena, Fiona, Lennat, Wi Nie, Rizal, Maddy, Daryl, Rochelle, Serene, Xiao Rong, Jeannie… the list just goes on. I’m sorry if I’ve left out any names but you guys, know this: YOU ALL ARE THE CHAMPS.

Me with Winie and Rochelle. Lennat why don't I have any pictures with you?! ):

I realized I don’t have any photos with you all. ): Sadness. So here is a random one I snapped of Rizal, our friendly cameraman:

A typical conversation with Rizal during our filming went like this:

Us: “Eh, were we okay? Was that good?”

Him: (pause) “Hmm, let’s do it again.” OR -changes subject- “Let’s go over that side okay.”

HMPH. So stingy with your praises.

OK just kidding. We reeeeally enjoyed filming with you!

And now I’m going to end this entry off with my Top Mortifying Moment of the Weekend or Possibly the Year:

Meeting Utt and Being Weird (otherwise known as Being Kerrie, Uncensored). Wi Nie calls it Morning Drunkenness.

I call it my foot-in-mouth-syndrome that showed a resurgence at the worst possible moment. Sigh. How could I turn off my undeniable (ahem) charm at this very opportune moment? I cringe. I die a little inside. I loathe to recount this to you. But here it is:

Utt: Hey nice meeting you all! I’m -

Kerrie: -interrupts- It’s really weird meeting you in person. (Pause) OMG that just came out.

    Utt: -smiles bemusedly-

In my defence, I was really sleep deprived. I’d not eaten. My usual filters were down and snoozing in some corner of my mind. And it really was kinda weird meeting him in person you know? Like, I’ve been seeing him on TV since I was like, what, 13?! And then meeting him in real life?

But what could he have said or reacted to that? “OMG it’s really weird meeting you too”? “You should be locked up”? “Are you nuts?”? or, like, just ran away? I would have totally expected all of the above.

Anyway, he managed to behave like he didnt want to get away from me as soon as he could so I’m really pleased about that, at least. I’m sorry Utt, I’m really pretty normal..really. Let’s do it over. Start again. Forget your first impression of me. Please. Let your people call my people (hah!) and we’ll hang out.

    Um. Right. Maybe not.

Ok you’ve heard enough of me for one entry.. so here ends my account of an awesome World Stage Weekend!
